Introduction
In photography we have to do something different to what we have to normally do like sit on tables by our self, wiping the tables and laptops after use because of COVID-19.This has change my life because i had al lot of free time and more time to spend with family also I was able to get more sleep. In school we have to wear mask and sanitise our hands when leaving and entering the classroom also we restricted to only be in our class so we can't go outside like we usually do to take photos.I think Make do & Mend means that we have to deal with the materials that we have and our options we have to work with and make it better by altering and adding new things to make something new out of it.
Make do & Mend attempt
We had to do make do and mend with the certain amount photos we where given reusing old photos from others and i chosen these images because I they had good shapes and circles to try and take photos of we where also given scraps of piece of paper in different colours like red, blue and orange. I was trying to create an abstract photo with reflections and shadows of the shiny images. One thing went well was that I zoomed in as close as I can to give to focus on the main image and not give any outline of the table. One way I could improve if I tried to use every image I had and tried to fit it into one photo.
Hannah Hoch
Hoch was an german artist that took photos by using the materials around her such as bits of newspaper, journals and magazines. She did this by cutting and sticking bits put together in a interesting way like the eyes and facial features mixed and matched to create a new image. In the images you can see a range of people, objects and drawings put together like different types of eye shape and colour cut in different shapes like triangles and circles that fits all together with a orange and white background.I think Hannah Hoch did this by using siscors to cut and she used a range of shapes like triangles, circles and squares and a range of colours like white, orange, yellow, pink, black and blue in each eye .The affect of this made us see a collage of eyes put strangely in random places that fit all together. |
Collage
I think the most effective thing I did was cutting a lot of space just leaving the outline of the person also cutting a bit of the person face like her eyes and putting a white background with words that are the colour red.I did this by first looking at what I was gonna cut so I thought about the face so I cut a eye out and connected it to the other with a line then I thought about the body I thought I could do what the Japanese artist did so I started to cut the arm then the body leaving just a outline of the body then I thought of place a background so I got white background with words that are red over it then placing it on top of a light to make it more lighter and I found this difficult because it was hard to cut the same amount or to make it straight with the equipment we had.One thing that didn't work so well was thin or think the outline was because some where smaller than others so it didn't look so neat also I need to cut out more space to make the outline more visible. |
Dave lewis
Dave lewis was born in 1962 London,UK this photo was a series of Caribbean men coming over to Britain and foughtfor world war 2 called Reg Willis-Eversley and this tells us that at this time a lot mix race people came over to help.I think the person in the photo chose to stand in that pose to show that he is confident and proud of that time period that he came from. The props in the portrait are important because it show the history of that time and two flags telling us these two countries where in union.
This time I thought about doing the same concept but doing it in a different way like cut only bits of the man but still leaving the body first i started at the man arm I cutting line with a sharp tip going across I did this through out the body also cutting out the black background then putting a yellow background with a object in the middle that shows through the lines that I cut out.One thing I could improve this is by thinking of cutting out more things in background like cutting bits of the letter on the news paper in the background. This was effective because it was an idea that i thought of based of a concept that the Japanese Artist did by cutting the bits out.

Experiment
Ive improved what I've done last time and try to apply the same techniques from last time but changed it a bit by just cutting out the outline of the person only leaving the face so I started with the arm then to the head because it was the most difficult trying to get a thin outline through out the body. One thing that went well was that I cut out the lines more straight and accurate then before and found a background. This was effective because I applied the same idea and improved into my own style while still having the same concept of the Japanese artist. One thing I could improve if I cut the lines more bigger because some the lines are too thin to see properly.

1.Leonardo's painting is a woman sitting in the middle with a smile with a background in a area with trees. This painting was famous because of her eyes in any area you walked and you look its looks like she following and the model in the painting is mysterious person that no one knew it was also in Francis the first king of France in a royal collection before the French revolution so it has a long history and it was stolen for while in the 1911 and found again 2 years later.
2.Marcel Duchamp version he added a title on the bottom of the painting if you pronounce L. H. O. O. Q in french it would mean a rude expression like "fire down below" or "hot ass" he also added facial hair to the female model to make model seem gender fluid or the mock Leonardo's painting and he add a hood to the female model. He added a different background as well its a lot more darker and different to Leonardo's painting.
3.The term "ready made" could mean that they using something that already been made and altering and changing it to make something new and different to the the original one so it's like using it again that why its called "ready made".Marcel Duchamp version L. H. O. O. Q. is a "ready made" as in he using something already there like a painting from someone and changing it and making it different so it's a new art piece from the one he used.
4.This idea "ready made" was revolutionary because the idea of using someone else art or thing was thought as theft or not right in that time period where art was new to those types of ideas like "ready made" so when Marcel Duchamp did it the people were confused and angry to that idea but it opened new doors and thoughts to that type of art at that time.

I choose this image Magritte 'The son of man' because when i saw the man with a suit in a middle of an area that close to sea with a stone brick wall in front with his face partly covered by an green fruit that looks like an apple or a pear i found it interesting and strange also the title is quite mysteries because they use words it to make hard to understand what this picture meaning is.First i took out the middle of his body just leaving his arms then i thought about adding a background so then i thought i could print out the same image but upside down to kinda make it look like its mirroring also cutting the two areas where the hands are in the background to make it mirror the other side as well and i did this by using scissors to cut out the bits i wanted. After i adapted it now it looks like a mirrored picture of a man with a pear or apple in front of his face.If i could improve i would make the cuts more straight if i had a better cut with also try to add more to it like adding another layer to make it more interesting.
Julie Cockburn
Cockburn was an UK artist that studied in Central St Martins School of Art and Design and Chelsea School of Art, London. Her work was carefully thought way to use found objects and everyday items to create a photo. She did this through changing the objects in different ways or shapes such as sculptures, paintings, photographs, printed paper and books and putting them in abstract way to make the objects and images that she used to put them out of context.

Daniel Gordon
Daniel Gordon was born in 1980 in Boston, Massachusetts, was raised in San Francisco, California, and lives and works in New York. He creates his work through using range of bright colourful images and items like fruits and plants to create a 2d image with a 3d effect as it has been cut out in a way to make it look like its out of place so its a separate thing blended into the background. This abstract feeling photos make us question if the photos are in 3d or 2d as it hard to look at it as it is so bright and colourful making it really hard to see the difference.

Assessment
I think what i did was effective because i thought very carefully of what images I chosen. First thought about what i should do so i looked at magazines to find objects and people to create one whole image put into an abstract way so first I cut them out and put card over them so they didn't fall or break easily next I thought about where images gonna be and what I was gonna stick it too. One thing I could of improved was making it stand up so it was like a 3d image.
Prison photography
I followed a list that we had to do on our online lesson. One thing went well was that I thought of way how I could put it into an abstract way but still following the idea of the list. One thing I could improve is if i can find more objects around the house.

I had to follow a list in a class so I tried to find random spots around the class room to take images. One thing went well is that I found nice spots to take photos and still follow the list. One way I could improve this is if I could take photos outside the class finding more spots to take photos.
Final project
Experiment
Final experiment
First i got my images from a photo book and i thought about only choosing architecture and people from the book, i chose these images because it reminded me of old styles and how the buildings look like and how people dressed at that time. I was trying to create my own city with architecture like traffic light, smoke stack , attach houses also broken down buildings and a children and mother . I created my 3d collage by making stands for each building and person by cutting out cardboard paper and cutting them in triangles and sticking them on every building and person i also made sure that they all stand up i also added lights to show the background of the people and building.
I chose a red background because bold and strong so it really shows the purpose of the city. This work reminds of Matt Lipps who does a lot 3d images with cut out images and photos from many different areas and places.
